Harriet Tubman: The Woman Named Moses
Deep down in the backwoods of Maryland is a group of slaves seeking emancipation. The group consisted of two couples and their new born babies. A lonesome man and woman. Minus an older man and woman who want to put an effort to taste freedom before their time ran out. The leader of this pack was a woman with many names and gifts alike. While living on her plantation her parents and common-folk called her by one name, but on wanted posters and to the operators of the "Underground Railroad" knew her as Moses.
A river lays ahead of them and already shadows of doubt are showing. Running with quiet feet one of the slaves asks "what we gon do Harriet?" Standing at the foot of the river Harriet looks around, than suddenly she collapsed and falls to the ground. This happens when God whispers something bizarre and courageous to Harriet.
One minute later Harriet gets up and tells her brothers and sisters in bondage what to do next. With a voice that was militant and stern "come and cross this river" Harriet would say. Out of all the scared and timid faces Ben the lonesome man had some choice words for Harriet. 'Woman are you crazy? Are you out of your mind?" Ben shouts. Now calm and collected Harriet responses by asking Ben "don't you want to be free?" Going back and fourth with Ben Harriet feels as though she needs to make a statement, and make it loud and clear.
Moving up close enough to Ben as if she wanted to tell him a secret Harriet places her musket on his chest and says "have it your way." Than comes a sudden pop. At this point in Harriet's life she only needed two things: her God and her gun. Witnessing the line Ben crossed the remaining few now know this to be factual.
While a mission is still not complete the worst of all is coming around the corner. Captors horses and the bounty's chains are heard near by. Carrying no worries whatsoever Harriet tells those in bondage to lay flat on the ground and keep their babies as quiet as possible. Standing in a spot where she's noticed Harriet gets the signals of the captors and bounty's.
"Oh Harriet. Oh sweet Harriet." cried one of the captors. Just by hearing the voice alone Harriet knew who this was. It was her former master's son Gideon. Still standing her ground Harriet knew that this would be the last straw between herself and the bloodline that once enslaved her.
"What's it gonna be Harriet? Don't you be no hero gal," Gideon would say boastfully. Laughing as if there was no care in the world two of the low white classmen bounty's start to slide some racist slurs and misogynist jokes (gestures). Cutting their jokes and gestures off Gideon says "the choice is yours." Pointing her eye's at them all with a silent stare Harriet replies by saying "I already made my choice. And now I'm no longer yours to keep."
It was as if she turned into the protagonist in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained when Harriet pushed herself in a backwards fainting position and the shots fired. First shot hit the bounty that made the sexual gesture towards Harriet (hitting him right in the balls). Second shot hit the second bounty in the head (making his hat fly a wide distance). Third shot hits Gideon's horse, causing both him and the horse to hit the ground. Shots four and five are instant kill shots, hitting the two other captors that were with Gideon and belonged to his plantation.
Not seeing a living soul in sight the only one that was heard crying pleads of agony was Gideon. His beloved Abigail was dead and bleeding severely. Beneath Abigail was Gideon in a state of complete shock and disarray. Kneeling down Harriet wants Gideon to see her face and her brothers and sister in bondage to see her actions. "Rise up", yells Harriet. The pack of those seeking emancipation discover the massacre that Moses casted upon pharaoh's children.
Speaking in a voice that was loud enough for those in attendance to hear Harriet read Gideon's eulogy:
"Hey Gideon. Do you see this river? This river represents a new life and a new beginning for us. For as long as I could remember you hated my guts. Since you was a little boy. now I'm free and I live to free others who are still in chains. Sadly, this marks the end of your road. What are your last words?"
Stooped in a state of rage Gideon yells "curse you Harriet." Going once, twice, and beyond Gideon kept on yelling and screaming profanities. Time and energy was running out so Harriet bid her farewell and shot Gideon in the face execution style. Turning around Harriet see's the faces of her brothers and sisters seeking emancipation and walks towards the river. Wearing a look as if she wanted to crack a smile Harriet looks and says 'who wants to go first."
You best believe they crossed that river. The North Star and the night sky would be their guide. Plans of new lives and future's of hope filled the air. One could say that whatever life they desired would certainly be up to them.
